Finch song meanings
Without u here
I think this song could be about a problematic, long distance relationship. Problems arise ("the storm is back"), they break up...they make up. The circle never ends. Each time they're together, things seem fine, but when they part, the problems come back. And when she speaks to her reflection, she's trying to reassure herself that everything will be alright, at least when they see each other again. Maybe she's just waiting for him to come back in hopes that things will be perfect, although it doesn't seem so. I may be completely wrong.
Waiting
To me, the lyrics explain a guy in a relationship who goes through a lot.. cries, waits.. for a girl who does nothing but apologize for all of her lying. He has been through relationships like this before and all he asked for her to do was tell the truth, but she fails to do that. He becomes tired of the monotonous feelings of pain and countless let downs and decides to move on, let go.
Untitled
My take:
a relationship down.
but yet he wants some support.
"Words turn to phrases, phrases turn to words"
The only thing left of the person are words and fragments of remembered
conversations, and they are overanalyzed, thus making them into phrases.
3 simple words
You all
seem to know the three simple words that he wants her to tell him, but you don't
seem to be putting the "Why?" in here, so I'm going to do it myself. He goes
through the whole song, talking about his love, and how he got screwed over in
the end, and he goes into depression, and can just picture himself strangling
his love telling her to tell him those three words so he will let go. He wants
to hear her tell him that she loves him, that the reason why he shouldn't
strangle her to death is because she loves him. The great thing is, this songs
is left open-ended. You don't know what happened.
The new kid
I just
read an interview that says it's not about Nate's step-dad, it's about Derek's
mom's boyfriend.
"Derek - That used to be a normal song, it's about my mom's boyfriend who died
on Superbowl Sunday when the Rams won. And it totally bummed us out, we really
liked that guy a lot, he was awesome, the closest person I've ever met like
compared to my dad. He died in a motorcycle accident after the superbowl, just
going to a gas station to pick up cigarettes. Nate and I just sat down and
collaborated on that song, it was just a normal song, and we got sick of it
because it wasn't that good of a song-"
Stay with me
Nate said "this next song is about my friend who died in a motorcycle accident a couple years ago." I'm pretty sure "New Kid" and "Stay With Me" have the same meaning.
Project mayhem
This song
rules, because it pays homage to Fight Club, one of the greatest movies ever....
And Daryl and Nate just trade off lines like crazy...it's amazing....I love
it.....
Post script
Beautiful song. About a relationship where you think it would be ok then it got complicated... 'the worst is over for now take a breath now let it out' I like this song it gets me going. This song is probably Finch's best lyrically! "I wish it didn't hurt, hurt like this, To say these things to you" He's expressing that its hard for him to say the things he knows he has to cause they might not be what she wants to hear, and it hurts so say those things! "I'll sacrifice 1 moment for 1 truth" This lyric could mean a number of things but to me it means I'll sacrifice a moment of my life with you to know the truth! "If we get through 2morrow then we'll be fine" Its a great lyric and it speaks for itself! "We'll wait for forever and see how far we go" He's saying that he's unsure about how long the relationship will last but he's willing to try! "Its just another day, 1 more chance to get this right" He's saying that everyday is a new day and he's trying to make things right! "I'll sacrifice forever please just for tonight" This my favourite lyric in this song, I see it as I will give up my future and all that it holds for just a moment with the 1 I love! "The worst is over for now, Take a breath, now let it out" The worst is over theory, trying to convince yourself that everything will be fine if you hold on! Well that's my interpretation of this song!
Perfection through silence
it's
pretty self-explanatory, but for those of you who need some help, perfection
through silence, well, it means what it says. it's the idea that by holding your
tongue, you could appear more perfect, because then you won't say anything you
would regret or that would make you seem flawed.. it reminds me of an incubus
lyric.. 'High fives to a better judgement
By saying less today, I will gain more'.
New begging's
these lyrics are pretty self explanatory... she left him with nothing, and he has nothing to look forward to anymore, and he asks for an explanation as to why she broke up with him because she did not have a reason to leave him.. but she doesn't want to listen to him anymore because she is off in her new life having a great time and she doesn't want him to interfere anymore... a very sad song.
letters to you
Great
song. it obviously means what he says. He misses the person that this song
is devoted to, and all though he's writing, the letters aren't much.
If you listen carefully to the song, you can hear that he says "home" instead of
"her", although "her" would also make sense. When he says "home" I believe he's
referring to the fact that he's found where he belongs, particularly with this
person that he misses so much.
Grey matter
well I
don't know about ALL the lyrics, but the parts about 'would I bite my tongue,
and live with what you've done?' I think is saying he's questioning whether or
not he should 'bite his tongue' (not say anything) about whatever it is she's
done..
and ..'I've surrounded myself with all I have inside '
It means that what he's feeling, he puts himself around...for example, if he's
angry inside, he's around angry people or something? or if he's sad, he's around
sad people and things that are sad? just a guess, or maybe I read too much into
everything. Or it could be about a guy who's been dumped, but he can't show
everyone how unhappy he is. Because then the girl would have won. She didn't
know it, but he really loved her. So he can't tell anyone he loved her, can't
tell anyone he's upset, just smiles and acts like he's happy. But inside he's
hurting so much he doesn't think it'll end... so he's thinking about grabbing a
knife and killing himself, just to make it all end, to finish it off, so he
won't hurt anymore, ever again. It makes me feel guilty too!
Ender
I think its about a relationship pretty much gone to hell...He really loves her,
but he knows its won't work out...He is always there for her...but she doesn't
even care..."Here we are to sing you a song, and there you are asleep again"...
Awake
My
interpretation of this song is that is of a turbulent relationship. "One
devotion with empty moments" could mean that when things seem fine, they are in
fact empty, of holding things inside and lying to each other. "Silence broken
with words unspoken/ Now she's on her knees." Their peace and silence is broken
by a fight, even one without words. She begs him for forgiveness, or begs him to
change, or something. "Can I beg for one more she says," she just wants things
to be the way they were, even though they could not be.
"The air is clearing again/ We're breathing, water turns to wine." They see each
other and their relationship clearly, but they are soon intoxicated in the
familiarity ("Water turns to wine?") "The day is tired, the night is inside her/
Now she is alive, no more feeling useless" This could mean that the unsatisfied
peace is ending and they are fighting again. "Taking with arms wide open,
longing for sleep again" He just takes it and wants to get past the fight for
the peace.
Of course I could be totally wrong, this is only my interpretation. It could be
about sex... Think about it: "Now she's on her knees"
